Oktoberfest Party Theme
Oktoberfest is held the last two weeks in September and is believed to have originated in 1810 as a wedding feast in Bavaria!
In Germany and in many parts of the world, Oktoberfest is a large festival with plenty of beer, food and music. Large tents in the Theresienwiese meadow in Munich are the setting for the festivities. To begin the ceremony, the mayor taps the Oktoberfest keg of beer.
Host your own Oktoberfest party to celebrate Fall and German Heritage. An Oktoberfest party is a great way to introduce your guests to various beers. Fun upbeat music and good food are a must.
Ask guests to come dressed in Oktoberfest
costumes and hire a beer maid to serve beer. German hats are also a fun addition.

Make a bar or beer tasting station out of 2 wine barrels with an old door as a top. Place beer steins around the party area. Hang blue and white balloons throughout the party.
Purchase a keg of German beer and several bottled varieties to give your guests some variety.
Set up tents in the yard for an authentic Oktoberfest environment. Designate different beer tasting tents and serve the beer in German steins.

Give your guests something fun and interactive to do and get them involved in some good old fashioned country fun.
- Yodeling Contest - Challenge guests to a yodeling contest. Award prizes to the person who yodels the loudest, longest or receives the most laughs.
- Beer Stein Races - Fill beer steins with beer and have contestants complete an obstacle course. The person with the most beer left in the stein is the winner.
- Chug-a-Lug Relay - Divide contestants into two teams consisting of 4-10 players per team and seat them at a long table. Fill a cup or beer stein with approximately 6-8 ounces of German beer. The first player on each team will chug their beer. When the cup is empty, they will slam their cup or stein on the table. The next player on the team will chug their beer. The first team to finish all of their beer will be declared the winner.
- Don’t Say a Word (Nine Sez ze Verd) - Provide each guest with a blue or white beaded necklace. Each guest will wear his/her necklace around his neck. Identify and post four taboo words that guests cannot say during the party. If a guest says one of the taboo words and another guest hears them, the person saying the word will forfeit one necklace to the guest who caught them. Guests are encouraged to try and get the other guests to say one of the taboo words. For example: if one of the taboo words is “good”, a guest could go up to another guest and say “how are you doing”. Many people would reply with “good”. The guest that ends up with the most necklaces will receive a prize.
Sample taboo words: Good, Beer, Oktoberfest, Eat, Happy, Dance, Sausage
