Western Theme

Get all your friends together for a western party theme and show them how the wild west was won. Check out this website for old west slang.

Divide the party rooms into different western themes. Create an old west directional sign that points to the different areas. Weathered wood works the best. Use a black or brown sharpie marker to write the names on the signs. No western party is complete without a few of the following:
  • Saloon
  • Ghost Town
  • Jail
  • Bank
  • Watering Hole
  • Hitching Post
  • Alamo
  • Outhouse
  • Dance Hall
  • Blacksmith
  • Sheriff
  • General Store

Activities / Games

Give your guests something fun and interactive to do and get them involved in some good old fashioned country fun.
  • Chili Cook Off - Challenge a few guests to show off their culinary skills by entering their chili into the cook off. Guests that do not enter the cook off can be judges. Encourage the contestants to keep their chili annoymous. It adds to the mystery and prevents hurt feelings if noone know who brought each chili. Make sure to provide small tasting cups. Make ballot cans out of metal cans with the labels removed. Decorate the cans with raffia and number each chili with a star cutout. Provide each judge with a dried kidney bean and instruct them to vote for their favorite chili by placing the kidney bean into the ballot can of the chili they like the best. The chili that receives the most beans is the winner. Make a trophy out of a bottle of hot sauce and award it to the winner.

  • Sack Races - Make racing sacks out of burlap or order them burlap sacks online. Divide the guests into teams or allow them to compete individually.

  • Fire Pit / Campfire - Roast marshmallows and provide the fixins for s'mores.

  • Western Trivia - Wild West trivia and answers.

  • Pie Eating Contest - It's best to provide small pies such as hostess pies and prevent the guests from using their hands. Be sure to provide paper towels or wet wipes for easy clean up. The contestant to finish his pie first is the winner.

  • Beer Drinking Contest - Provide each guest with a bottle of beer and a drinking straw. The first guest to finish their beer using the straw wins.

  • Mining for Gold - Spray paint rocks metallic gold and hide them throughout the party. The guest who finds the most gold wins a prize. Designate some pieces of gold as fools gold and deduct points for each piece of fools gold discovered. You could also fill a sand box with sand and bury several pieces of gold. Provide sifters and give each guest 1 minute or 3 scoops to 'Mine for Gold'. The guest who finds the most gold wins a prize.

  • Pony Rides - Rent a pony and a petting zoo from a local farm and create memories for the kids that will last a lifetime.

  • Square Dancing - Hire a local country band, musician or DJ and square dance the night away. If you don't know how to dance, take a few private dancing lessons before the party and wow your guests with your country two steppin.

  • Poker Tournament - Organize a poker tournament and challenge your guests to a good old fashion game of Texas Hold'em. Hire a casino party company to help you with all the details.

  • Mechanical Bull - For over the top wild west fun, rent a mechanical bull and challenge your guests to a bull riding contest. The guest who lasts the longest wins a prize. Create a winners board and post the names and times of the winning bull rides.
