Wine Tasting

Wine tasting parties are very popular and are a great way to experience new wine varieties and meet great people. There is no better way to arouse a palate than with sampling wine. You can host the party yourself or hire a professional to host the event for you.

The host can provide all the wine or each guest can bring a bottle. Make sure you request guests to bring a variety of wine to ensure there will be both red and white wines available for tasting. Sweeter varieties and dessert wines are best served last.

If you plan on serving food consider wine and food parings to enhance the experience. The flavors in different foods can enhance the flavors of the wine.

Be sure to provide pencils and tasting cards for guests to take notes.

Wine by Region

All wine at this type of tasting is chosen by the region the grapes are grown in. Ask each guest to bring a bottle of wine made locally, in Napa Valley California, France, Germany, etc. The host could also provide all the wine for this type of tasting. This is especially fun if you recently visited a wine region and want to share the different wine varieties from the region with friends and family.

Wine by Price

All wine at this type of tasting is chosen by price. Ask guests to bring a bottle of wine that costs $10 and below, $10 - $20, $20 - 30, etc. This is a great way to experience wine at different price points. Guests who typically buy expensive wine might be surprised at how good a less expensive wine tastes.

Blind Tasting

A blind tasting is a great way to experience wine without being influenced by the bottle, label, brand or type of wine. With this type of tasting, bottles are concealed in numbered bags, boxes, etc. Guests are required to experience the wine for the taste, color, texture, etc. This the the way most wine experts sample wine.
